Dimensions:

Proscenium:
The maximum suggested width is 50'. The standard proscenium width is 40' centered on the 50' center line. This smaller stage opening is achieved by adjusting the legs. We reserve the right to adjust the downstage legs in order to maximize sightlines, especially for the house left audience. The proscenium height is fixed at 20'-0". A 12' tall border is hung from the first electric for masking. The first electric is also equipped with a walkable bridge. The first electric is motorized and may be flown out to create higher trims.

Stage Floor:
The distance from the upstage proscenium line to the upstage wall is 33'-6". The distance from the plaster line to the furthest upstage lineset is 29’. The distance from the thrust point to the plaster 16’-5”. The thrust is an elevator which acts as the orchestra lift and can only be operated from the stage managers console stage right. The thrust lowers to 11’-9” below stage level, and services the trap room only. It can be stopped at any level for orchestra use; the pre-set stops are at stage level, house level (3’ below stage level), and trap room heights. The thrust/lift may not be operated during the performances.

The stage manager’s console, stage loading doors, company switch, sound system’s amplifier rack, and flyrail are located stage right.

Wall-to-wall width:
86'-6" at upstage proscenium line.
56'-0" at upstage wall.

Note: Stage Left wing space is virtually non-existent. There is a door upstage left for entrances, exits, and crossovers to the stage on this side.

Stage Manager's Console:

This panel controls the thrust elevator and various worklights throughout the theatre. The houselights and onstage worklight controls are mounted adjacent. The house lights are also controllable from the light booth or through the Express console.

Dressing Rooms / Green Room:

Located off the backstage corridor, there are two large dressing rooms, two smaller dressing rooms, and the Green Room. Each large dressing room contains 18 makeup areas with chairs, mirrors, and lights. Each has immediate access to showers, sinks, and toilets in adjoining rooms. All dressing rooms may be locked but all bathroom facilities must remain open to performers, staff, and technical crews alike. The two smaller private dressing rooms are each equipped with a lighted mirror, shower, and a sink. They also have quick access to the restroom facilities. The Green Room contains a conference table, a production desk, credenza, sofa, and chairs. There is one phone/fax line.

PLEASE NOTE: The backstage corridor and restrooms will be shared when there is a simultaneous production in the University's black box theatre upstairs. As stated, this includes performers/staff and technical crews. Companies will be notified of their dressing room allocations. This area is closed to the public.

Crew Notes:

Please note that the Edison Theatre is part of Washington University, and, as such, our crew is mainly comprised of student employees. We appreciate your understanding that at times there are varying skill levels among the crew members. All crew members are a part of ongoing training to act in any position at Edison Theatre. You will not be stranded with an unknowledgeable or ineffective crew, but there may be times when crew members may need an extra bit of explanation, or are not familiar with your personal terminology, since for most of them, Edison Theatre is their only experience in technical theater..

Whenever possible, we will appreciate visiting companies accomodating our students' schedules, (e.g. allowing some leeway for day calls, to accommodate class schedules, when possible.) Obviously, if your only technical rehearsal(s) occur during the day, you need vital crew members there for the entire time. We only ask that when possible, if a crew member with minimal responsibility needs to miss an hour for class, that we try to accomodate them, if it will not affect their ability to perform their show duties. Visiting tech staff will always be consulted with in advance with those needs.
